| The year ahead is set to be an exciting one for Silvertown Quays, the £1.5 billion mixed use regeneration development that will change the face of the Royal Docks and East London. The development received the green light in May 2007 from the London Borough of Newham and a £119m deal with the Bank of Scotland Corporate, part of HBOS was secured. With significant developments taking place, the project is now moving ahead and work is due to start on site early 2008.
The redevelopment of the Silvertown Quays 24 hectares (60 acre) site, adjacent to the Royal Victoria Dock, London, E16 is a vital element of the overall Thames Gateway concept, linking ExCeL, London City Airport, the river and existing residential and leisure schemes. It is one of Europe's largest regeneration projects, providing new homes, offices, workspace, retail, leisure, entertainment and community facilities for all to enjoy.
Joint developers Silvertown Quays Limited (SQL), KUD International and landowners, the London Development Agency (LDA) will transform the site into a major mixed use waterfront scheme of 494,020 sq m (5.3 m sq ft), including 4,930 residential units and leisure facilities that include the world-class aquarium designed by renowned architect Terry Farrell & Partners. The site was masterplanned by Urban Strategies International (USI) a specialist practice from Toronto, Canada. |
