The Venture Xtreme surf centre proposals will spectacularly animate a large part of the former Pontoon Dock, bringing the water to life in an exciting and dynamic way sitting alongside specialist sports shops, waterside restaurants and cafes, and other sports uses.

The Silvertown Quays Venture Xtreme complex will have two elements: facilities and a surf centre and an indoor adventure centre on a site next to Biota!. It will be a world first; a totally unique facility.

The surf pool forms the centrepiece of the scheme and this will be built into the existing dock. The proposals involve structures and facilities that draw upon the character of the rich industrial past to create iconic forms and public spaces. The building that generates the waves will also double as a climbing wall and TV screen. Adjustable 'crane' lighting rigs will illuminate the surf pool and the 'silver sand' beach together with the major public space in front of Biota! known as the 'Esplanade'. A beach bar, floating bistro, sports shops, and the indoor Venture Xtreme centre complete this unique adreneline sports experience.

The centre is expected to attract 100,000 surfers and body-boarders a year, along with five times as many spectators. Waves of up to 2m can be created for all levels of ability from total novice to professional surfer. The perfect white sand beach will be 100m wide and up to 25m from front to back, giving enough space for over 200 swimmers, sunbathers and surfers.

The main indoor component will be housed in a building immediately to the East of the aquarium. This will include climbing walls (including an ice wall), caves, high ropes and zip wires, a dive tank, a kids zone and other unique facilities for local residents, Londoners and visitors from further afield. The ground floor of the mixed use developments that wrap around the surf area will also accommodate specialist retailers and restaurants to re-enforce the vision for a vibrant destination to compliment Biota!

Committed to contemporary design and the creation of visionary and iconic buildings, the developments and associated outdoor activity areas will be carefully integrated into their environment and will complement the design standards for the entire Silvertown Quays development .
